Prioritise your services

August 8th, 2008 by niksmit

It’s been on our todo list for a while, so we’re happy to announce that you can now “order” your services. This allows you to arrange your widgets and profiles to show which are most important to you. We all belong to services that we use occasionally, and others that are more integral to our identity - this feature makes sure viewers of your card or signature can tell which is which.

Simply edit your card and click on the “Icon order” tab. Drag the services into an order that you like, hit “Save Changes”, and you’re done!

The changes will be reflected on your card, and on your email signature.

We have more features in the works that will further help you to customise these assets of yours - stay tuned!

Professional affiliations on your card

August 4th, 2008 by niksmit

Company Logo

Many of you have asked for the ability to add professional affiliations to your card.

This could be necessary to :

* comply with a requirement for your industry (e.g. displaying your Real Estate network logo),
* to add credibility to your card (e.g. a particular qualification)
* to display a connection to an institution (e.g. membership of a professional body)

or similar.

We’re happy to announce that Retaggr now facilitates this.

When editing your card there is now a new tab “Affiliations”. From here you can upload the appropriate logo from your computer, and include an optional url that contains more information about the affiliation. This link should be specific to you. An example would be your profile page on the professional body’s site, that contains more details about your qualifications etc. This adds weight to your assertion about that affiliation, and helps viewers understand who you are, and why you are relevant to them.

The affiliations widget (the yellow shield) will then be added to your card, which takes you to your affiliations.

If you’re interested to see how this works, go ahead and open my card.

As always, let us know your feedback, and we’ll get back to you asap.

Happy retagging!

Gnip brings API access bliss

July 22nd, 2008 by niksmit

We’re delighted to announce that retaggr is now using Gnip to power our twitter feed, with more services to be incorporated later. This means we are no longer prone to (sometimes unannounced) API throttling policy changes by twitter, and can deliver a consistent experience of bringing your tweets into your retaggr card timeously.

Most web 2.0 services these days consume, and produce, vast amounts of data. Typically this means each service has to reinvent the wheel regarding API design, architecture, and particularly, scaling. Gnip provides an invaluable service to the web community at large by stepping in as the middle man and normalising this scenario.

Any service can publish, anyone can consume, and the interface is consistent across all parties. Best yet, it’s all designed from the ground up to scale brilliantly. This is not just a case of moving twitter’s problems somewhere else - the overall consumption pattern is more efficient and sensible.

Congratulations and thanks to Eric and the rest of the team there - we look forward to some of the very interesting features on their roadmap.

Retaggr and real estate

July 11th, 2008 by ivailo

As some of you may know my background is in real estate and mainly property search. I am very excited about what is happening in the space and specifically the technological innovations we see every day from companies all around the world.

I am very happy that we are getting a very positive reception from professionals involved in the industry, with a few examples being the Nestoria blog being retaggr enabled as well as the conversations happeningĀ  on the 1000 Watt blog as well as The Phoenix Real Estate Guy Blog (which is also retaggr enabled).

We have been thinking of how to make the retaggr cards even more useful to professionals from the industry and would welcome any thoughts and ideas. Whether it is what you would like to be able to add to your card or where you would like to have your card pop up please do get in touch.

Also if you run a blog or a site with a social element to it and would like to extend the user profiles you have for your users please let us know and we can work with you on a solution.

Retaggr in the news

July 10th, 2008 by niksmit

We’re really excited to be developing retaggr. Apart from working on a project that just-makes-sense to us, it’s fantastic to receive such positive feedback. (Actually, all feedback is very welcome!).

We’ve received many great write-ups by bloggers, who can see the value in what we’re doing, and how it can help them. Thank you for taking the time to write about us!

It’s also been great to receive favourable press from some of the big sites. We’re working on a press page for the site, but some of them are listed below. Thanks to them also for helping us get the word out.

There’s a fair bit going on with retaggr, so it’s relatively easy to miss some of the key features that we think make retaggr special.

  • Embed content directly in your card.

The retaggr card is interactive - not only does it contain links to external profiles, but also full featured widgets. This is powerful - people can access your content directly - quickly and spontaneously. For sites hosting the card, it means you don’t loose your visitor.

  • Comments on blogs

Retaggr-enabled sites add context to their posts and comments by having the cards pop up right there, against the post, without your visitors needing to do anything. Retaggr enabling your blog /site is easy. This builds an ecosystem of places where your identity can be expressed and relevance added.

  • Partner implementations

We’re working with other sites to extend their profiles with retaggr cards - see our partners page for details, and keep an eye on that page (I can’t say more ;). As our network grows, retaggr cards will be attached to all kinds of interactions and profile pages, helping people to connect.

  • Image tagging feature

Retaggr enabled sites can enable image tagging, another chance to encourage their community to interact and get to know each other.

We’re just getting started. It’s been great to get to know the various types of people that find retaggr interesting. For instance, we’re working with the Real Estate community to see how they can benefit more from retaggr. Does your community use identity in a specific way? We’d love to help out by facilitating that - let us know.

As always, drop us a line with any queries, comments, or suggestions - we look forward to hearing from you.

Get a better view on your services

July 10th, 2008 by niksmit

Quick post to let you know about some new features just released, which we think are quite interesting.

The first is service recommendations. This answers questions like :

  • What services are popular on retaggr that I dont’ use?
  • What services are popular amongst my friends (bookmarked cards), that I’m not using?
  • What are the services common to me and my friends - i.e the best places to interact with all of them?

We’ve added some charts to help visualise the data better (ok, maybe it’s because we’re geeks and quite like that kind of thing), and if you move your mouse over the service, you’ll see exactly which of your of your bookmarked cards are using that service.

So that gives you a good view across all of your bookmarked cards, but what if you’d like to connect with someone in particular?

Use the Compare Cards feature to see how your services overlap (so you can interact there), and which services you may want to consider adding in future.

We have lots of ideas for further development in this area, so watch this space, but if there is something in particular you thing would be great, let us know.

Happy retagging!

Greasemonkey scripts to add retaggr to popular sites

July 7th, 2008 by niksmit

Have you checked out Grease Monkey? If you’re a firefox user, its a great tool for altering your browsing experience. In a nutshell, it allows you to run your own scripts on a site on order to change it in interesting, and useful ways.

Naturally we couldn’t let an opportunity go amiss here. Grab these GreaseMonkey scripts from our site and have retaggr cards inserted into profile pages on sites such as Flickr, Disqus, twitter, and FriendFeed. When you’re looking at somone’s profile on those sites, and they have a retaggr account, their card will be added in the appropriate place, and you can catch up with everything that person is up to. Nice. Example screenshots here.

Are there other sites you’d like to see supported? Give us a shout and we’ll see what we can do.

Extending your twitter profile with your retaggr card.

July 6th, 2008 by ivailo

Read Write Web have a post about extending your FriendFeed and Twitter profiles - how to do it and why you would want to do it. Many of our users are already using their retaggr card to extend their profiles on many services including twitter since their card already contains all the information about them. For instance see my twitter page. One of the main benefits of using the card is that you only need to maintain all your information in one place and as long as your retaggr card is up date, everyone will see the up to date information.

To do this go into your twitter settings and add your retaggr card URL under the more info URL field. Your retaggr card URL is visible under your card in your account.

June 20th, 2008 by ivailo

retaggr and Beemood have partnered to bring your retaggr card into your Beemood conversation and put your Beemood posts into your retaggr card. Basically retaggr will power the extended profile information of Beemood users.

So how does it work? It’s easy, as long as you are registered with Beemood and retaggr using the same email address your retaggr card will automatically be embedded into the posts you write on Beemood. See some more information here.
